Sony to bring VR headsets in October on the market
Sony announced at the E3 trade show in Los Angeles that its Sony PlayStation VR will be available in October in the US and Europe. In total, Sony wants to put 50 games this year that are suitable for the VR headsets. These include Resident Evil 7 and an exclusive version of Star Wars Battlefront.
Since the announcement in 2014, more than 230 developers and game studios got engaged in the development of games for Sony PlayStation, ranging from small studios to big names like 2K Games, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft.
The Sony PlayStation VR will need a PlayStation 4 console to use the headset. The device’s features include a Cinematic Mode that allows users to view standard PS4 games and videos, as well as 360-degree photographs of optional cameras. In March this year, Sony also announced a special bundle, which contains a PlayStation VR headset, Horticultural PlayStation Camera, two Move controllers, and the game VR Worlds.
Sony competes in the field of virtual reality with big names including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and HTC. A recent study by Strategy Analytics shows that the market for VR headsets this year will account for a turnover of 895 million dollars. About 77 percent of these sales will be generated by the Oculus Rift, Facebook, HTC Vive, and Sony PlayStation VR.
The PlayStation VR will have a price tag of $399 USD.
