Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung’s smaller glass and metal flagship phone for 2016.

The Galaxy S7 brings back two important features missing from the S6: a microSD card slot and IP68 water resistance. At first glance it looks much like the Galaxy S6, but it has curved sides on the back for a surer and comfier grip. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphone has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, the top of the line Snapdragon 820 CPU (US model, other countries may get the Exynos CPU), 4 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 200 gigs.

The phone has a lovely 5.1″ 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display, LTE 4G, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and a GPS. It has a front 5MP camera and a new 12MP rear camera with fast auto-focus, very good low light capabilities, 4K video recording and OIS. The Galaxy has a 3,000 mAh battery that’s…

  1. Lisa, you always do great in-depth reviews. One comment you made was regarding carrier branding….and I'm glad to be with T-Mobile and one reason is they don't stamp the outside of the phone. 🙂

I would love to see an S7 vs iOS review. Best of each going head to head.

Thanks again for the great review.

  2. For me the camera performance in low light is the winner. I am required to take a lot of pictures in low light restaurants and during evenings and with my current GS5 without flash, one would be better off using Voice Recorder. At a recent dinner a friend took a picture with her GS7 while my gf did the same with her iphone 6 and after looking at the GS7'S photo she wanted to throw her iphone and MacBook pro and all evidence of being an Apple Person into a volcano from her native Iceland.

  3. I'm contemplating between this and the iphone 6S. Went to a phone shop and played with all these latest models. These 2 were my favourites for the cameras especially.

  4. Looks better than the shitty-edge-thing. Too bad that the regular version doesn't have a 5.5'' display. I will never buy a curved display because I want things to be better represented on the screen, not distorted on the margins… For what those rounded disturbing UI? If I take a screen-shoot and see it on a monitor, the actual UI will look different than on those edge-shitty thing 🙂 So, better representation on graphics = flat display, always! I hope that Samsung will never stop producing flat displays!

  5. Ive got a galaxy S2 and its starting to have some problem with heavier apps now but worked like a charm up to this date. I must say its been really nive to be able to replace the battery by myself. Done it 4 times over the years. Hope its possible to do that for a reasonable price with the s7 to.

  6. Why does samsung refuse to go to on screen buttons? I love amoled screens and samsung really destroys every other phone in terms of screens, but i cannt use their phones because of the physical button.

  7. I have had mine a week now..Best phone I have ever owned by a long shot..Had an S5 before this for 2 years..Does everything the S5 did but better and faster..Plus all the features are back, waterproofing and sd card slot..And better camera, more ram, better battery life etc…This is the phone to beat in 2016…

  8. what about an infra red blaster? does it have that. its nifty feature cut out of the newer phones that comes in handy when you lose the tv remote control.
