Meet Vi, the artificial intelligence fitness coach in your ear

If you work out regularly, you must know how important it is to have a personal trainer. A personal trainer makes it hard for you to get lazy and motivates you to do better workouts. However, they are extremely expensive and not always available whenever you need them. Well, now you can have a trainer which you can wear as LifeBeam has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a personal trainer driven by artificial intelligence.

Dubbed Vi, this assistant looks just like a pair of headphones that tells you what to do during a workout. It will coach you to achieve goals like weight loss and improve running by tracking you. It can tell you to speed up if you’re running behind your usual pace. It can tell to slow down if you’re running very fast and if there’s any possibility of injury. Also, Vi can tell you the weather forecast, so that you can workout indoor while it’s raining.

The earbuds are touch aware of controlling systems so no need to press the button. The device is foldable and ends of the neckband are magnetic for storage. The earbuds are sweatproof and rugged enough to survive during a workout. Vi comes with a textured surface that keeps it from slipping around. It also has Harman Kardon sound integrated for high-fidelity sound. Interestingly, it has a soothing female voice, which may remind you of Scarlett Johanson’s AI voice in the film Her. With compatible BI mobile app, you can review your performance and have ongoing communication with Vi through voice or text, even when you’re not working out.

“The future of wearables is using AI to personalize our health and fitness in real time, and we created Vi to lead this new frontier,” said Omri Yoffe, CEO, and co-founder of LifeBeam, in a statement. “By improving a person’ s awareness of their own behaviors, environment, and real-time physiology, Vi provides an inspiring and truly smarter workout experience. We call Vi an ‘ Awareable,’ as it’ s the first and only wearable with the power to actually be aware of a person’ s activity patterns and coach their behavior in real time.”

The company launched a Kickstarter campaign for Vi with a goal of $100,000, which they reached in 90 minutes and still has 38 days to go. It will start shipping in December 2016. Vi is currently available for preorder at $199.
