Google updates its Phone app with spam caller protection
Nothing can be more annoying than getting a spam call all day. Most of us have faced those annoying phone calls at least once in our lifetime. However, if you have a Nexus or AndroidOne device, you can now see if the call is a spam or robo-call and block it, thanks to Google’s latest update to its phone app. with the caller-id enabled on your device, now you’ll see spam or robo-calls pop up with a red screen, showing the warning “suspected spam caller.” You can then block the number or you can report it as “Not Spam” if you trust the caller.
You can also block or report a call even if Google doesn’t flag it as spam. Just go to “recent calls” screen and block it. Make sure you have your Caller ID enabled and your Google Phone App is updated to the latest version. The Android version should be at least 6.0 and as the blog post says, “your phone may need to send information about your calls to Google.”
This update will roll out to your AndroidOne or Nexus device soon. If your Android is updated to 6.0 or higher, you can also sideload the APK here.
