This problem has plagued me on three different Samsung devices. I would pair my phone with a BT speakerphone, and it would break voice search. You’d hit the microphone button, but you’ll never get past the initializing screen. Major bummer, and very difficult to try and fix why you’re operating a moving vehicle (also against many state laws).
Well here’s one potential solution!

  1. Im still having issues with my headset. On top of that now when I do a search, and then try to do another one after the first one, google voice search brings up the last search i did instead of initializing a new one. do you have this issue too?

As a side note, you can disable that water dropplet sound by renaming the files using a root browser. obviously you need root, but a quick search on google and youll be linked to a forum that shows you the file names and locations

  2. Seems to be a Bluetooth issue for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Android 4.3). When Bluetooth is on and connected the Google Voice Search opens but immediately stops listening whereas if Bluetooth is off then Google Voice Search listens for several seconds. Bluetooth Launcher is nice but won't work if your phone is locked (I use pattern lock), so that is not a useful option for many.

  3. And I think you can turn down the volume on system sounds and make the 'sound' a little less annoying. This hasn't seemed to solve my problem….I dont' think! I'm so confused after a year of frustration. First with the GS3 now the NoteII

  4. Samsung almost lost me as a customer because of this. Motorola doesn't seem to be bothered by it. I want to be able to make totally hands free voice calls. The only way I have found is using Bluetooth Launcher app. And it crashes way too often. But it does work MOST of the time. Smart phone c'mon!  Samsung and Android get it fixed! This is a Jelly Bean 4.1.2 issue.

  5. Yikes. That sounds like a pain. I'm going to revisit this issue see if any recent updates have made this work better. Voice dialing over Bluetooth improved tremendously on my HTC One once it got 4.3. Maybe Samsung has figured this out…

  6. For BLUETOOTH HEADSET DIALING I had to go to play store, Google search, hit menu button at bottom of my Samsung Note 2, uncheck auto updates. Something to do with the newer version of Google Search/ Google Now????? Not really sure; but it works for me. Never had any trouble with a Motorola phone, but I have had 2 Samsungs and they drive me crazy with my Jawbone ERA.

  8. I can't believe this was the issue, but sure enough, even after installing CyanogenMod 10.1 and buying a new bluetooth headset, this fixed it. I can finally use my headset! Thanks for sharing this obscure tip with the world.

  9. Giant high five on this: this has been driving me mental.

No idea how you managed to discover that setting was the cause, but glad you did.

Also – is a problem on HTC devices too: happened for me on my HTC One and HTC One X.

  10. Thank you! As for voice dialing, grab Bluetooth launcher from the store and set it to Google Now vice search activity. That fixed my jawbone's long press to do whatever I want and not just dialing a number or svoice, which I disabled completely at first.
